The
Royal Buckley Town Band recently played their
part in the launch of one of the most
important industrial investment programmes
in the UK, when they were invited to perform
at the opening of the new multi million
pound Airbus factory in Broughton in North
Wales.
A350 Aircraft
The factory will produce the wings for the
massive A350 aircraft, and such was the
importance of the event that the band was
listened to by an audience that included
Prime Minister David Cameron.
World's Media
Chairman Steve Pugh-Jones told 4BR: “It was
a proud day to play in front of some of the
country’s leading dignitaries and I would
like to thank our Vice Chairman Jon Moss for
his efforts in ensuring we played an
important role in such a high profile
event.”
Boost
Led by their resident conductor Scott Lloyd,
the band played whilst the factory and
exhibition were being visited. Scott added:
"Having the world’s media on hand it gave us
a huge boost in our profile and showed how
important a part we play in the local
community."
The
Royal Buckley Town Band is pleased to announce
the appointment of Scott Lloyd as their Resident Conductor.
Scott brings to Buckley a wealth of experience and great
enthusiasm which should ensure the continued development of the
band; building on the existing good foundations at Buckley.
Scott will work closely with Professional conductors such as
Paul Lovatt-Cooper, Mark Bousie and John Doyle to continue with
what the band see as an excellent set up.
Chairman Steve Pugh-Jones said “The band is very pleased with
the new appointment. After an uncertain few months we are really
looking forward to working with Scott. It will be nice to have
stability in the middle of the band once again to ensure we are
prepared for a demanding schedule of engagements”.
Scott commented: "I am delighted to be appointed as the resident
conductor with the Royal Buckley Town Band. I am looking forward
to building on the already firm foundations of the band. Myself
and the committee have already had initial discussions and have
some exciting projects in the pipe line for next year; it will
be a pleasure to work with such forward thinking musicians".
Scott will join the band from mid July to get involved with
their busy summer programme.
Contest Update
It's been a
busy couple of months for the
Royal
Buckley Town Band as they competed
in contests in Preston and Swansea.
Playing Triptych (Philip Sparke)
as our own choice test piece in the
Guild Hall in Preston (6th Feb), the
band achieved 2nd place out of 12
bands (story below).
1st
Tyldesley
195pts
2nd
Royal
Buckley 194pts
3rd

Silver 193pts
The following month it was time to
take another trek down to South
Wales to perform in the Welsh
Regional Championships in Swansea.
The set test piece was Resurgam
by Eric Ball.
Conducted by Mark Bousie, the band
played an enjoyable performance and
earned a very respectable 3rd place
from a total field of 10 bands, just
missing out on a place in the finals
at Cheltenham.
The Royal
Buckley Town Band head to
Swansea in South Wales this weekend
ahead of the Regional contest held
annually at the Brangwyn Hall in
Swansea. The band will be conducted by
Mark Bousie who last took the baton at
Buxton back in 2009. The test piece is
Resurgam by Eric Ball which the band has
previously played in a contest, but many
years ago. As ever, everyone is looking
forward to the challenge and hope to
qualify for this year's finals to be
held in Cheltenham.
