3RD SECTION CHAMPIONS OF WALES

NEWS

More Contest Success
|
The Royal Buckley Town Band performed
earlier today (Sunday 29th June) in the Rhyl Festival of
Brass entertainments contest in the 3rd Section.
Playing first in the section, the Band played a 20 minute
'set' which opened proudly with Kings of Brass by
Darrol Barry. Our principal cornet player Steve
Griffiths then serenaded the audience with Joy Webb's
Share My Yoke. Singing In The Rain came next with
the usual antics from our soprano player, followed by the
lovely Prelude: 49th Parallel by Ralph Vaughn
Williams. The Band closed with the 3rd movement of
Paul Lovatt-Cooper's fantastic test piece Dream Catchers.
A huge well done to all of the Band who
performed so well today on stage. Also,
congratulations to our MD Dave Davies and our fantastic
compere June Mason.

Welsh Regional Contest News Update
 |
Following the review of the band's performance at the Welsh
Regional Contest on 4BarsRest, our story of success was
reported in the local press. Further coverage of the
Contest was reported on the website for the National Brass
Band Championships. Read the full story
here. According to Iwan Fox on 4barsrest, "...the contest
unfolded a bit like the Arthurian legend – band after band
trying their luck to pull a winner out of the stonelike grip
of adjudicator David Read, before one came along and plopped
it out with the ease of a Barry John drop goal."
Read
the full review of the 3rd Section including some rather
encouraging comments about Royal Buckley on

We look forward to your comments in our new
Guestbook. |

I recently found a website containing
details of the Penmaenmawr Silver Prize Band Quartet
& Slow Melody Contest from 1955 ! The Contest took
place on Saturday March 5th 1955 at the Penmaenmawr Young
Men's Institute. Taking part in the (Under 16) Junior Slow
Melody section were the young Wilf Wilcock and Colin Smith
who still play in the band.
Results from the 1957 and 1958 Contests are also shown, and
feature other Buckley players including Nev Wilcock, Nev
Hewitt and Glyn Smith (also an active player).

The Band is really
happy to announce that one of the busiest
men in banding will once again conduct us in
Swansea. Paul was unable to take us
last year as we were playing one of his own

We look forward to taking the long journey
